The key here isn't a law or an EO, it's investigative journalism. If people want to get back to the days where candidates where under a serious microscope, start opening up your pocket book to the few genuinely good investigative reporting entities out there (Like OMG).
Investigative journalism is extremely expensive to do with unpredictable returns on investment. It's one of the reasons big capital investors are reluctant to fund those groups and would rather sink their money into click bait operations. So grass roots support is the only real option.
If you fund groups like OMG, more will appear to take down the powerful.
The last thing we need is another law impacting people's privacy. Plenty of those already.
This 100%. Anyone here asking for the government to pass an EO effectively banning secret societies, either A) isn't thinking it all the way through, or B) lacks vital critical thinking skills.
