Hollywoke is going broke. There is no such thing as a blockbuster anymore. Most new films are unwatchable garbage and even big marketing dollars don’t draw interest. The recent Disney bomb , The Little Mermaid, is proof. Nothing Disney produces is any good, and even if it was there are too many people who want nothing to do with increasing their bottom line...
Like anything else, film is not dead, it is just temporarily out of sorts because it has lost its mission...
I think we can look forward to the death of the old guard and the emergence of something entirely new...
They spent over 400 million in making and advertising the movie.
118m is a success?
They will need to sell a billion in ticket sales domestically and overseas to turn a profit.
This movie will hurt their bottom line.
Now, if Blackrock, Vanguard, State Street and Berkshire Hathaway guaranteed them zero loss to go woke?
Yeah, Disney can do this nonsense forever, but my feeling is.
Those asswipes cannot fund garbage into perpetuity.
It isn't profit. Of that $118m, theaters keep between 40 and 50 percent (domestically, 75% in China), so Disney will bank somewhere around $70m. Studios also typically spend another 100% of the budget on marketing, etc. So with a budget of $250m, a $500m box office would be a loss of about $250m. Those other movies didn't have a $250,000,000 budget.
The Little Mermaid bombed in the foreign market (read: China), and that is a huge deal because Bob Iger and Hollywood as a whole have been sucking up to the Chinese film market for over a decade now. The trend for a few years was that even if a film did okay here in the US, the studios could rely on the Chinese market to make up rhe difference.
Not anymore.
Is it possible that most of any revenue they gained from Black Mermaid, came from people wanting to know what garbage was in the movie? Like looking for the bullshit? Not too many genuinely interested viewers, I don't think.
There were a few theaters that were 'full capacity' opening night that are suspected to be Disney buying out the theaters for the numbers and to make it available for black girls to see (because Ariel looks like them and that's certainly not pandering at all, nosiree).
The studios behind Wonder Woman 1984 and that horrific all female Ghostbusters remake did the same trick too. Same reasons.
Don't forget Captain Marvel; I'm pretty sure that one only hit a billion because they inflated the numbers thus.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they also try that with Rise of Skywalker or whatever that last Disney Star Wars movie was?
i enjoyed that movie. Shes kinda hot
Lots of people were genuinely interested. Lot's of women, especially. Lot's of black women and their daughters, too. Just not enough. Just imagine though, how successful the film would have been had they cast a girl who actually looks like Ariel from the animated film? This woke play seriously cost them. Millions of people won't see it because it doesn't fit, and so many recognize this is political pandering and are protesting it. I will watch a bootleg when that guy who did the deepfake does the whole film. He did the trailer with deepfake technology and replaced her with a white girl and red hair. I don't have a racist bone in my body, but we all know what this was. They did not cast her because she was the most talented actress for the role, as they claim.
Did he do the whole trailer? And if so, do you know where I can find it?
I'm thinking a larger percentage of black people because the mermaid is black. Also they completely changed the story. Also maybe the younger generation that didn't grow up on the original and didn't care if the story is changed. I know Disney is bad! However I always enjoyed their princess and Pixar movies before I knew about the evil. To me it was just make believe and fantasy. My daughter is 30 and she's got the common sense to know it's a fantasy. Maybe growing up Christian and in a stable family keeps you from getting sucked into the subliminal messages. IDK! As for me I wouldn't give my money just to figure out the BS. I don't have an issue with Ariel actor/character being black. I'm not watching because they totally changed the storyline and I'm aware of the evil at Disney.
You should have an issue, because Ariel wasn't black in the original; she was never meant to be black. It's a blatant insult to her and to her fans.
