The original Lancaster bouncing bomb was intended to blow up a dam that was protected by torpedo nets. The bomb just skipped over them!
They basic bomb was a cylinder but they padded it to make it spherical. After a test where the casing broke off and it still bounced they decided to use it as it was. I believe there was a spherical version called Highball, as well.
