Tautology has two entirely different and distinct (heh :) meanings
One is "redundancy": needlessly saying something twice using different words, as in the phrase "different and distinct" or "Fauxbama is a foreign-born illegal alien who is a non-US citizen from another country."
The other is "a statement that is true by necessity or by virtue of its logical form", such as "An animal is either a moose, or it is not a moose." The statement is true regardless of the meaning of the word moose.
