TAUTOL'OGY, noun [Gr. the same, and word or expression.]
A repetition of the same meaning in different words; needless repetition of a thing in different words or phrases; or a representation of any thing as the cause, condition of consequence of itself, as in the following lines.
The dawn in overcast, the morning low'rs,
And heavily in clouds brings on the day.
You wouldn't believe how many Greek words we use every day. Any word with "ph"; any word with "ogy". Any word with a "ks" sound, such as "exit". Most medical terms (e,g. cardiac). And many more.
Name checks out, kek
I'm finding Latin homeschool curricula first, as a Spanish speaker it's a little easier to slide into. But Memoria Press offers Greek as well, and we're considering it... Because it would be amazingly cool to read some of the ancient philosophers' works in their own language.
“Television; half Greek half Latin. Nothing good can come of it.”
Just For Fun
Tautology has two entirely different and distinct (heh :) meanings
One is "redundancy": needlessly saying something twice using different words, as in the phrase "different and distinct" or "Fauxbama is a foreign-born illegal alien who is a non-US citizen from another country."
The other is "a statement that is true by necessity or by virtue of its logical form", such as "An animal is either a moose, or it is not a moose." The statement is true regardless of the meaning of the word moose.
