My thoughts exactly. Although there's probably plenty of Leftists that wouldn't be able to make the connection between loss of electricity and loss of the internet.
The only politician who I've seen actually trying to address the hardening of our electrical infrastructure is Newt Gingrich of all people. He's been pushing for Federal money for years to manufacture backup transformers and hardening the ones we have.
The Carrington Event occurred in 1859. It was the largest solar storm in modern history, most likely caused by a coronal mass ejection. The Northern Lights could be seen at the equator! Telegraph operators received shocks and telegraph pylons threw enormous sparks. After disconnecting the power supplies for some telegraphs, they were still able to work and send messages because there was so much auroral current in the atmosphere.
If this were to happen today, nearly every transformer in the United States would be fried. It would take years to replace them. MILLIONS of people would die as the electrical grid was rebuild from nearly scratch.
And only one (retired) politician has consistently pushed to prevent this from happening.

Bingo. It goes something like this: "Bu...bu...but without the internet, who's going to tell us what to think and do???!!!" 🤣🤣🤣
