Yes. They 100% know. Here is the real problem with that though. The service academies have been infiltrated in a big big way by the Communistas. Not completely, but they exert influence enough to pollute ranks. Hell, look where they are located. New York, Maryland, and Colorado. Deep blue marxist states.
I can only to speak to Maryland's government, it is deep, deep, blue. The Naval Academy, I don't know. I'm not sure the state politicians interfere in who they want assigned to instruct at the academy, but like you said it could be polluted.
