Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Seeking hydration information. Does anyone eat certain foods to keep hydrated? Do you use Gatorade alternatives, like natural hydration powder? I'm asking because my skin is extremely dry. To the point my skin looks like a crocodile. It's probably a combination of my age and hormones. I drink mostly water all day. Occasionally herbal tea, OJ or milk (with out hormones). My skin all over got this way over the past 18 months. Thanks
Put a tablespoon of, for instance, Bragg’s vinegar in one of your morning glasses of water. Any natural vinegar with live “mother” cultures will do as well.
It has many healthful properties including electrolytes, it helps to keep your body slightly acidulous and the live cultures are good for your gut.
Drink plenty of water. A good indicator of proper hydration is when your urine is consistently a light straw color.
Three or four liters a day of water is a good start.
Thanks, I have that vinegar. I'll start this. I did it years ago and got out of the habit. I drink at least 48 ounces of water a day & my urine is clear. It won't hurt me to ad a few more bottles.
Get some fat in your system.. even fish oil will help.
I started evening primrose a few weeks ago. Will look into adding more fat or fish oil.
The skin vitamins are A and D, Niacin,Iron.. A from leafy greens and E is good too whole grains and seeds and nuts, Also, collagen, it comes in a powder and you can brew a bone broth rich in collagen. You can drink too much water and flush out nutrients. Have you heard of Switchel? Old NE recipe for hydration and electrolytes, Maple Syrup, Apple Cider Vinegar and raw Ginger and Lemon Juice. Chop up some raw ginger and fill a pot with some water 2 quarts, boil it no longer than 2 minutes and steep for 20. In another container mix 1/2 cup of maple syrup or mollasses, 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar (Braggs or another natural kind with the "mother") 2/3 cup of lemon juice from fresh lemons.Mix it all together. It's an old formula they used to pack for the haying crew for the poor boys that were stuck loading the bales. It contains all the electrolytes, and of course, it's natural. Invented by a Vermonter I think, Yanks drop like flies in the heat.
This is great info thanks a bunch. I've heard of switchel but never tried it.
Ha Ha, I know it gets hot up north with out our southern humidity. I love the heat and it's finally getting hot. We have had a cool spring & warm winter (February was at least 70 & higher). It's the bugs with the heat that get me. Can't walk outside without getting bit.
My limit is 72, above that I am uncomfortable, I sleep with the window open, only shut it when its below 50.
Nice😀
Whole milk helps with skin oil production. Not so much the low fat stuff.
Just got some whole milk today. Thanks again
Thanks I didn't know this about whole milk. I prefer whole milk but usually get 2%. I'll switch to whole milk.
