Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment

-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)

If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
So Lordie, why don't people want to work an easy gig for 20 and hour after taxes? I cannot do the moving around and assisting physically the little guy (116 lbs) my son and I care for in our home. I want to give my kid a break on the weekends, so I have been advertising for someone to help hang with the man we care for, watch TV with him, help with walking him, (not alone, I would be there too) maybe go to activities on the weekend, read to him, etc. They would not be preparing meals or be doing housework, I can train them to feed him. There are days he dozes a lot and they just need to be someone with a pulse for 8-10 hours on the days they are here. This is the fourth round of ads I have placed. My son gets paid for personal care and taking him out in the community and appointments from Monday-Friday, under the title "Community Support Person". I get no responses, or people who never show up on time and have a million reasons why they can't come sometimes. All my son wants is a break, and people are not answering an ad which would give them a couple of hundred bucks for an easy job in two days. WTF?
I have no idea what that means. Maybe that's why you get no takers.
And what is "the little guy (116 lbs)" that you and your son care for? Is it a dog?
"Gig" is a common name for a job, a part time job. The little guy is the man who lives in our home, I am asking for a person to come and help me care for him, he is disabled and has to have someone with him eyes and ears on while he is up and out of bed, and ears on at night. The person just has to assist me in helping him walk, as I am 73 and cannot have him leaning on me for assistance, but I can do it with another person. Basically they just have to hang out with him, while I do the housework and meal preps and other chores. There is no heavy lifting involved, it is an easy job, the person would be in my home, they can read, watch tv with him, help me get him in the car and take him out and about with his wheelchair. He can stand and walk with assist. It is so my son has some time off, he works with him all week long. No training neccesary as I will be there to train and supervise.
I'd help you out finding someone if you were closer. I hope you find someone, it's tough watching people struggle, I do what I can for my dad and neighbors but I'm in my forties and falling apart too.... ain't the years it's the mileage.
