The very nature of such a secret society and the insane things they agree to is abhorrent, as JFK said, to many people, regardless of what they're up to in their day to day.
Unless the people who've been up the chain are lying, they will eventually push entirely non Christian beliefs onto the members. Nobody denies that good people who are Christians get into the lower ranks. Plenty of Christians got roped into Communism and Nazism too before it was obvious what it was and they were in too deep.
There's other massive red flags like the way they let each other off for crimes even if it's a serious crime with blatant evidence.
Freemasonry isnt a secret society....it never has been. A secret society seeks to keep its existence secret. It has always been a fraternity with secrets...not because we dont want people to know them but because we want people to seek them out for themselves. Just like a college fratnerity but for adults of many ages and not just for social interaction but for helping the community and each other be better men. my observations and first hand knowledge just dont align with the innuendo and assumptions people on here make because Ive lived it. I mean even people who say “hes a 33rd degree“ dont understand how that doesn't make someone higher up than someone who is not. The highest degree is Master Mason. After becoming a Master Mason you can join appendant bodies like York Rite, Scottish Rite, Shiners, etc. or if you choose any combination of them, all of them, or none of them. The degrees in those appendant bodies are supplemental degrees that each have a different emphasis (Christianity for York Rite, Philosophy for Scottish, Charity for Shrine etc) but none of which make you “higher up” than another person who has decided not to join. I know this because im master mason myself and have joined some of these bodies and received all of the degrees. I have seen nothing that is anti Christian or goes against my faith. If there ever was Id leave immediately. Anyway theres a lot of hoaxes, misunderstandings and claims made but im on the inside and ive been trying to get people to understand freemasonry isnt what they think it is. Its way more boring than the claims against it. Lol.
I would argue that there is quite clearly a secret society (or multiple) that forms the core of Freemasonry, surrounded by what you describe, a fraternity with secrets. I believe that fraternity with secrets is nothing more than a front group used to improve public image and reception. I see the same thing happening with religions like Tibetan Buddhism or the Catholic Church. Freemasonry only seems to be a much more secretive and organized version of that same pattern.
All of what you're describing would line up with what we've heard from the whistleblowers who were high level in the order, which is that most low level Freemasons have little if any clue what their organization is truly about, and Christians or anyone with a moral compass that won't break are strung along for as long as they're useful but never allowed too high up. Having genuinely good people, especially if they're Christians, around the community promoting Freemasonry is great for them to maintain their public image and recruit.
Now that said, I'm not saying anything is impossible. There could be factions within Freemasonry that truly follow Christ and want the organization reformed or returned to some better past. There could even be a core within that corrupted core pulling its own strings. There could be people who are into all that new age stuff which I believe is wrong and dangerous, but are still opposed to outright satanists and Luciferians. I don't claim to have all the answers but I know that people who seek God and find Him have already joined a sort of brotherhood where there is one leader and everyone is already welcome to a 24/7 personal meeting time with Him. Lies and secrets are discouraged, impossible when dealing with the Boss, and membership is automatic.
The church is also a belonging you are correct. And ultimately a more important one. But we can be a part of many groups in life as long as we are true to our hearts. The whole “theres actually a society within a society“ is an argument Ive heard many times but im trying to tell you that ive seen no evidence of any of this and trust me i would have already heard something because masons talk BETWEEN masons ALOT. If i ever uncover something untoward ill report it here and exit the fraternity. I can promise you that
