Iraq and Afghanistan made Viet Nam seem like a weekend training exercise. You could almost justify U.S. (I said "almost") involvement in Viet Nam, but U.S. involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq was so blatantly orchestrated for benefit of the military-industrial complex it's beyond disgusting. All those lives and limbs lost! Although many more Americans died in Viet Nam, somehow what happened in Iraq and Afghanistan seems worse.
The "we must stop the communists from taking over SE Asia". I know, it seems pretty lame now, but I think there was a real fear of communism taking over the world back then. Of course now, they just do it more subtly; no bullets needed, just a few generations of leftist propaganda in schools and media.
Can we say this about practically every war? Especially Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.
