From a technical point of view, seems sort of the same. Although I get the Congress thing.
My ideal government would be just powerful enough to guarantee constitutional rights and no more. However, I get the impression that giving billions to military industrial complex, banks and whatever else seems to sit better with conservatives than putting money back in the pocket of individuals. They seem more offended by tuition bailout than any other form of welfare.
From a technical point pf view, it’s completely different. It’s unconstitutional because congress controls the purse instead of one person.
And no, just because congress votes for bailouts for other industries doesnt mean we agree with it. The covid “relief” bill was a complete travesty and essentially paying companies to implement totalitarianism.
Then theres giving money vs paying for services, though in government most of the former is disguised as the latter, hence the need to drain the swamp.
Sounds like you were hoping for some of that student loan forgiveness money. If you were, i wish you the best of luck in paying off those loans.
I happen to notice that some seem more at ease giving money to military industrial complex or Israel than back to citizens but I totally agree with all your points.
It seems we have been governed so long by executive order even many conservatives have forgotten about the first article of our constitution which gave this power to congress. (Liberals haven’t forgotten, they just ignore that which doesn’t fit their agenda.)
The real winners in this case are the lenders and banks. Also they've been the recipients of bailouts. If they hadn't and it wss equal justice to all, I would understand.
Something I read on another board, is that the loans for businesses etc are through banks, not the government. Student loans are through the government so yes, Congress would have to appprove it and put in a bill for POTATO to sign. They knew this going in. They knew what the outcome would be, they’ll use it come election time or if they Pelican Brief a Conservative Judge or two and want to add new ones right before the election.
I spoke with someone who took out student loans the other day. Wanted to be a Psychologist... First I asked him if he was going to talk children into chopping off body parts, he laughed. He complained they took away his tax refunds the last 2 years and it should have covered the loan. I told him welcome to government interactions. Dude has 7 kids, and after borrowing the money (7K) he attended classes a few days before dropping out. A nice guy, but no brains or self-responsibility... Kek
So many out there. The big fuck up was guaranteeing college to everyone. I guess it was intentional. Hoping college loses its luster and people wake up. I think it's happening.
I'm not a Constitutional scholar, but the business bailouts you mention I believe came in the form of government backed loans which had to be repaid.
If you are referring to the recent student loan forgiveness being struck down, they already got their government backed loans and invested it in their educations.
What they are asking is for the books to be wiped clean after the fact.
Because, I’m assuming all of those bailouts were approved by Congress. Student loan forgiveness was by executive order.

This makes sense.

Will they be able to reverse Ukraine money? I know some came through congress but I seem to recall some headlines where Biden was handing it out.

Probably because no one had standing. lol

Good question.
Did anyone bring a case and appeal it all the way up to them? There is a process, they don't just arbitrarily decide things.
This. There needs to be a suit filed and the plaintiff has to show standing and damages, I think.

Totally different situation.
And I'm not a fan of government bailouts either.
