Party politics is so ingrained into our thinking that we probably need to have one candidate in each party just so folks can process the awakening in the hyper-partisan manner they're accustomed to.
The Trump/Kennedy ticket already exists in all but name. I'm certain they'll work together after the election in constructive ways, whatever the result is.
The biggest thing blocking a Trump/Kennedy ticket is probably simple election law & party filing rules. They'll file paperwork to run in their respective parties (if they haven't already) and that'll pretty much ice things up.
