I think that a PCP will try to find at least one medication that they feel is necessary for you to take so that you have no choice but to have 3 month followups in order to get refills on that script. Ever since they began pushing the jab on everyone, frankly, I've lost great respect for my physicians....they complied with what their practices/insurances dictated based on what the government was demanding even when they KNEW the jab/tests were for emergency use only and STILL when they know the claims of it's usefulness are unfounded. I felt belittled and bullied every time I said 'NO'..... got the eyeroll over ivermectin. Now that we know the truth, I'm not hearing any apology from them and I'd love to confront them about it. Shame on them.
Yep. In order to get my migraine meds (I only take when I get a migraine, and THE only prescription I take), they held it hostage unless I came in for a yearly physical where there could do basically a high power sale on vaccines.
That is bizarre. I worked as a pharmacy tech during college and had to learn about this type of thing.
Unless it's a Schedule 1 or 2 (and possibly 3) drug (morphine, Vicodin,.etc...), you shouldn't have to go back for refills that often. For maintenance drugs, (those taken regularly and long term, like blood pressure meds or arthritis medications) a prescription should last for 1 year.
And Schedule 1and 2 (and possibly 3) drugs need a new prescription every month.
Maybe it's some whacky law that only applies to certain states. Could you tell me what state you live in? I would really like to figure out why that is happening.
When Trump was officially in office he got them to crak down on anything addictive. Many of the homeless that I have talked to are addicted because of starting legal drugs, then getting cut off. It was way too easy to get a script for Vicodin. It used to be every time I left the dentist I had a script for 30 pills. I saved them in case of emergency and the last one I took was from 2012, it worked just as good as the new ones, I took it in 2020.
Ok. Not sure how this relates to what I was talking about, though.
I'm in Ohio. I am asked to return for a 'follow up' visit every three months for blood work to check my A1C as well as other levels, liver/kidney function, blood pressure, etc., in case there is a need to adjust or change a medication. There is some flexibility on scheduling these followups, but I've never 'tested' the doctor on this to see what would happen...although my son had trouble getting a BP refill without a upcoming scheduled appointment and, of course, absolutely NO flexibility for Schedule 1 or 2
