Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
It is heartening to know that there are still good people out there. I am traveling by myself (older woman) and got a flat late last night just after leaving Williamsburg fireworks. On side of busy I-64. Really busy highway with everyone heading into Richmond from Williamsburg and the beach, flying past me. Of course flat was the driver side. Female state trooper stopped after I called AAA. Said they would be really slow in responding. (She was right.)
She was on her way to another call and had to leave but said she would come back. So I started moving stuff to get to spare, which of course I had forgotten to maintain. (Fortunately I have a portable air compressor.) State trooper returned and waited while I pumped tire. VDOT worker stopped just as I was loosening lug nuts and he quickly did it all for me.
AAA never showed and I was there at least 90 minutes. I tried to cancel via their phone customer service after I got down the road and found a safe place to stop - and that was even an ordeal.
This morning I looked online and found a local tire place 1.5 miles from hotel and they got great reviews. I was there less than 30 minutes. They were so cheerful, helpful, and competent. I was so thankful to find them. I have had horrible experiences with dealers, tire shops, and mechanics for the past few years so was dreading dealing with a mechanic trying to rip me off again.
I am thankful for everyone who helped me through a stressful situation, especially God who kept me safe.
That's why I stopped AAA a few years ago, I hardly ever needed them for one and for another, when you need them, either they never show up or make you wait hours for service. Glad everything worked out for you.
