Indeed.
I was not surprised at all when the last Indiana Jones movie bombed hard. Warning signs were ringing for months before the movie was released. If it was a surprise to anyone here, then they're probably not paying attention to the culture wars.
Then again, the culture wars is a battlefield that GAW is not very strong in...
It's a pity, as I was a long-time Indiana Jones/Harrison Ford fan. The cheesy, vintage plots were comfy, IMO. My kids don't like those 'old' movies, though. But, they had no problems re-watching the Jason Bourne series, which has a similar hero.
Even the first StarWars would have been insipid without the swashbuckling Han Solo, despite the media pumping of the teenage Skywalker and Leia. I really only was engaged when Solo smirked his way past the authorities. So sad, that they had to wreck that ancient Greek inspired hero-narrative that has worked for thousand of years.
I think resurrecting HF as an old man could have worked, but they should have kept him as the hero. But no, they had to wreck it, and I was not surprised, given the recent Hollywood track-record of rewriting classics, and trying to diminish 'old white men'. It's like as if they have lost their mojo, and are letting wet-behind-the-ears, woke interns write the screenplays. Why have they taken Greek Mythology out of the curriculum?
In any case, when is the Sound of Freedom going to be available to us furreners that don't have access to theatres in the US? Any DVD dates yet?
