Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I had a stress test about two weeks ago which I passed. Unfortunately I didn't do so well on the scans before and after the stress test. One outpatient procedure and two inpatient procedures yielded 10 stents and the 2 previous ones I had were either cleaned out or replaced, I'm not quite sure what they did.
So I was basically a walking time bomb. I hear so many pro-statin and anti-statin stories that my mind is reeling with information. I had a heart attack 11 years ago which is why I had the two initial stents but could not take statins due to extreme leg pain.
I had a consultation with Dr. Glidden who is anti-statin but my cardiologist is pushing statins because I had so many blockages.
Does anybody here have any definitive answers on whether to take statins or not to take statins? Right now I'm basically freaked out by the whole situation and looking for a voice of reason.
Thanks anons.
I'm sorry to hear about your health struggles. Praying for you. I'm not familiar with Statins, doctors tried to put me on them and I didn't last a week. They make my chronic pain worse. Hawthorn is considered a heart plant and many people use it for this. I've used it occasionally. My BP is lower than it's been in twenty years and I think it's from Moringa. I can't be 100% sure.
#9 on this link mentions heart. Moringa
Good resource to get started with plant medicine. List of herbs
Good source for herbal tinctures
Also CBD & multiple varieties of mushroom's might be an option. Natural medicine will take at least three months to notice a difference. Many times you have to find the plant that works for you. Also some good companies offer capsules. Tinctures more effective but not good for travel. I can give you the places I buy herbal tinctures. In a pinch Iuse Herb pharm & Hawaii Pharm site. I prefer to buy from small stores online. If you have any questions I'll try help.
You might want to look into the Dr. Dean Ornish program for reversing heart disease naturally. My friend always gets his cholesterol numbers down quickly following the low fat diet.
I’m already on a low carb diet how am I gonna do the low fat diet too. It’s so frustrating. Trying to figure out what you’re supposed to do. So if I go low fat, and I eat lots of carbs, then I’m just going to get fatter, and then I’m gonna have heart problems. But if I do the low, fat and low carb, then I won’t have anything to eat, and I’ll starve to death. I’m thinking the latter is the way to go? What do you think? Lol just kidding.
Yes, it is a challenge. I think the answer is it is an individual choice and our bodies change as we age. In my experience the less fat I eat, the more I lose weight and my numbers go down. So it works physically, but is ultimately unsustainable long term because I don't find it satisfying. Lately I am trying to do the moderate route of less carbs(especially gluten) and a bit less fat, and zero fats before lunch, usually a fruit smoothie for breakfast.
I’ve been doing the fruit smoothies too. I’m really enjoying it. But I usually use Berry’s. They had the least carbs in them.
Oatmeal and a couple of fish oil omega 3 a day. Good luck.
Try carnivore diet or Lion Diet. These people are showing improvements in their health and blood work. Even drs doing it. Ferrigno Freedom, Dr. Anthony Chaffee, Dr. Ken Berry, HomesteadHow. I found them on Youtube.
Wow, you’ve been through so much. Prayers going out for you, for sure today. I don’t know a whole lot about statins (other than negative) but I found this. Worth a look.

When you say you had severe leg pain, it sounds really concerning. Rhabdomyolysis is on the extreme end of the reactions to statins. I know my mom had that problem and absolutely will not take them anymore.
I’m not a medical pro and I’m not going to give advice but going low carb and possibly intermittent fasting may help you. Take a look at Dr Eric Berg’s videos on a wide range of dietary topics. He’s on YT. He talks about non medicinal ways to lower cholesterol. I’ll edit to add a link in a sec. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=T4swm7ZX1nU
Thanks for this. I like Dr. berg, I’m going to listen to it.
Thank you!
Statins allegedly have many potential side effects including heart attack, stroke, peripheral neuropathy, "fuzzy thinking" and myalgia. And obviously they fuck up the liver, which is trying to get your blood cholesterol up to its normal average of 220 ng/ml while the statins are forcing it not to.
If you want to reduce atherosclerosis and "furring", you should drastically reduce your intake of fructose and refined carbohydrates and take vitamin K2.
I have to show this to my parents and check if they take statins. Bookmarking this. thanks
