With how China is buying up all sorts of land in OK (as well as the rest of the U.S.), I'm cautiously optimistic.
But I wouldn't put it past those commie bastards to try and pull the wool over our eyes by having an American themed amusement park.
After all they did own the biggest theatre chain in the world (AMC).
Supposedly the Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda Group Co sold all their shares back in 2021, but I'm not buying it.
Anyways, as far as the theme park goes, there needs to be some real deep digging to find out who really is behind this plan.
Love Branson! Went to Silver Dollar City with my in-laws while my husband attended a SCRABBLE(TM) Tournament. Had a blast!
I wish them well but it is 50 miles from a city ( between Tulsa and Joplin) and they will have trouble hiring and keeping people willing to drive 100 miles every day.
I’d imagine there’s going to be developers drawing up plans for new towns in the immediate vicinity if they actually go through with this.
The opportunity is something no developer worth their salt would pass up.
Not to mention the supporting industry that will be needed for the park long term will need somewhere to be based out of unless the Park developers go all in for in house work.
Remember Orlando was a cowtown before Disney. Nearby Sanford was the agriculture hub and would have been the big city in the area if not for Disney.
Bingo! The Grand Lakes area could use a boost. But there is no “workers” and not a lot of Workkampers anymore….. I’ll be in Branson tomorrow night. Stay for a day of madness and move on.
Patriots only 😉
Park is backed at least in part by Mansion Entertainment Group. Which Seems to be an up and coming Corporate outfit largely based out of Branson Missouri. Seems to have started in the 90s with the launch of a Theater group. Can’t find much in the way of history on their “About us” Just generic Corporatese and a Mission statement. Websites are also surprisingly simplistic.
I have found though that they’ve expanded massively within the last few years. Launching a Animation Studio that’s already multi-national with teams in Europe as well, Movie Studio, Distributor, Soundstage/Music Division and a Film/T.V Division. And with the park an Affiliate. With several animated films already in production. With plans for a massive studio complex in the works in Missouri. Several hundred acres at minimum.
Their sound stage division. Claims to have cutting edge custom made equipment unavailable elsewhere as of 2022 when it launched.
Based off the casual digging I’ve done this far. I can’t say how or where they’ve gotten the funding and backing for such a rapid expansion. Not to mention funding at least in part such an ambitious Theme park project. Or how they’ve been able to operate largely under the radar of popular culture. For for all intents and purposes they seem to have started from a Theater Company.
This company has essentially come from nowhere. Poached fairly high quality talent off the big boys in entertainment. Can afford custom made cutting edge equipment. Is now launching a multi-billion dollar construction project to build a park to essentially kick in Disneys teeth.
And as best I’ve been able to find. They were Theater Company operating all of 1 venue not even 30 years ago.
Either whoever is running has sheer unbridled ambition, the biggest fucking pair of cahones I’ve seen on an entertainment exec in years, and a possible death wish. Most of the giants in the entertainment industry still maintains their less savory connections after all.
Or they’ve got outside backing with a lot of cash to spend. And the balls and ambition to match the executives of this group.
I’m going to do more digging on this company.
I noticed that they got experienced Disney Imagineers for the project. My daughter worked with them at Disney World. They are incredible at what they can do.
My antennae jolted up when I read the article and you’ve provided the info that backs up my suspicions. They are going against Disney head-on.
Indeed.
The question is. Where is the funding coming from? Because they’ve been throwing around a lot of cash for a barely 30 year old company who spent the majority of that time operating exactly 1 venue.
Daughter reminded me that Disney had once considered a park like this in PA.
Very nice.
Public Co.?…I’ll pitch in!
Wow. This is great.
