There are many communities in rule, places that vote for dark skies. This means that at night they don’t want a bunch of artificial light in their area. This allows for a more peaceful environment at night, and allows you to actually see the stars. It’s a thing. And it’s a thing in many places.
However, trying to expect that to happen in the middle of San Francisco, it’s probably at the bottom of their list. They’re trying to kill us. So of course they’re gonna make it so it’s less easy for you to sleep.
True. Although little by little cities could be changed to accommodate for dark skies. Like lighting sidewalks and not the sky above. It's possible although sounds crazy.
Sidewalk lighting to a degree that would be needed would A) be extremely expensive, and all that money goes to illegals and B) still end up creating light pollution.
You should see what it does to newly hatched sea turtles in beachfront communities. The new hatchlings use the moon to find the sea and the artificial lights mess with them hard.
As an amateur astronomer (yea haha thats a term I use loosely) with a good scope who likes to take pictures of nebulas I hate all the artificial light. I have to go up north to my cabin but even there theres too much ambient light. I have to go way out onto State land to find the darkness I need. And then I have only 1 laptop battery worth of time or I need to run a generator.
I remember as a boy walking the neighborhood with Dad on a summer night, not far from the big city, the Milky Way shining brightly overhead. Havent seen it where I live in 30 years or so. These days even on the darkest nights you can only see maybe 100 stars overhead.
Too many people have become afraid of the night. The cockroaches (aka criminals) love the animosity of the night to come out. Having light makes people feel secure.
I hear you. Totally frustrates me that a majority of humans have been denied the awe inspiring spectacle that is to gaze up at a star filled sky and realize your place in the grand scheme of things. It's intensely beautiful and most only get a glimpse of one or two stars at the most.
Light pollution is a real thing. Messes every animal's sleep cycle including our own. Should not be taken lightly

That’s very clever idea. I’m sure I could be done with LEDs no problem.

I despise those bright all night porch lights. The night was meant to be dark, pretty simple.
