I suspect that much military equipment is over-estimated between wars. This is partly because people with rifles were fighting people with spears or people with an air force are fighting people without.

When real wars occur the rate of advance is amazing. Consider what the British RAF were using prior to WW2. They had the Gloster Gladiator fighter and the Handley Page Heyford bomber.

The Gladiator was the first RAF fighter to have a totally enclosed cockpit and the Heyford was its last biplane bomber. The RAF had a jet before the war ended.

African leaders have been able to compare the performance of Russian-made weapons and their Western counterparts during the conflict with Ukraine, Ambassador Oleg Ozerov said on Tuesday.

“They are carefully studying the experience of combat operations and looking at the fact that Russian weapons are much superior in quality to the much-hyped Western ones,” Ozerov said, adding that this has spurred an interest in arms sales.
