John Trump wasn't an associate of Tesla's. He never worked with the man. John was an electrical engineer and professor at MIT when Tesla died. The FBI had gave him access to Tesla's documents for 3 days to to determine if any of the belongings in the inventor’s estate—which included a purported weapon of mass destruction Tesla called the death ray—would be dangerous if they fell into enemy hands. John determined there was no risk. Now, whether John Trump made copies or even absconded some of the documents is the question I have.
