A worthwhile read. In the case of Mexico, it's a good trade-off at the present time. But so much depends on what happens next. But corruption and violence were so commonplace in Mexico that without AMLO's moves it was headed to devolve to local crimelords and levels like Venezuela and Papua New Guinea. Illegal Mexico-US immigration is driven both by a pull from the US side but also a push by unsustainable conditions in Mexico. They've had 2-3 armed separatist movements since the 90's, and will have more if they don't sort it out. For now it looks good.

A 30% budget increase and increasing control of domestic infrastructure. Marked by increased efficiency and decreased thefts in situations like the Airport.

And the main concern is Generals buying Mansions and taking extravagant vacations. At the moment I’d say that’s a trade off many in Mexico would take when compared to their previous situation.

Which I suppose is the real sad part.

One wonders to what extent this may be involved in the present coup in Niger and the governments in Mali and Burkina Faso.
