Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Anyone seeing low stock at grocery stores etc? I've been watching a YouTube account (link below). I don't know if I believe everything he says. Some of the information he shares is from people commenting on his videos. Rice is not on many shelves. I know that because I was looking at online big & grocery stores that are also local. They have rice to ship but not local. Many other items mentioned also. All & all I'll keep watching and do further research.

Yes I have noticed low stocks and empty or half empty shelves for certain things, whole grain pasta for one. I get rice shipped to my house in bulk, and other groceries in bulk, seems the way to beat the shortages in case another slow down shut down happens. I needed whole wheat pasta for my dog and there was barely any. Usually I only go to markets for fresh veggies and coffee creamer and bread, everything else comes in the brown truck, including meat, I get Butcher Box for that, except I do buy bargain meat for my dogs. The shut down over Covid taught me to never have an empty pantry again , God willing. I am saving money too, buying in bulk.
Thanks for the update. I order a lot for the house but buy local for produce and staples. My daughter just switched to rice for her dog's food so he'll gain weight. She has enough for now. We are almost out of deer meat but if things go dark hubby will get one for the family. About a month ago we bought 1/4 of a cow. We are set with meat for now. I'd like to purchase pork from the same farmer. Every time I go to store I get butter just because I don't want to be with out. Not cheap but you can do more with butter than putting on toast and potato. I'm pretty sticked with the basics, nothing on prepper level but I don't have a lot of room.
Where do you order in bulk? The only places I know are Walmart, Amazon and target.
I use Amazon also, for mres and other stuff
