Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.

In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I lived out there in 1976, about a decade before it turned all faggoty. Oh, there were gays a some gay bar, but the shops were old school tourist shops, and regular stores because Provincetown was also a fishing village, on the docks were many fishing boats, scallops, cod, flounder, sole, the wharf that has all those faces on them now and full of shops was a processing plant, trucks would go in and out, at the plant was gutting and icing, packing. A huge festival called Blessing of the Fleet happened every June, the boats would be decked out and the families and friends would load the boat, on the dock was the Bishop himself, throwing holy water as the boats passed, then they would dock out by Long Point, and party hard. It was a town that had gay tourists, bikers, some hippies, lots of non gay tourists, and the families were all Portuguese, lots of good restaurants that had New England fare, a biker and fisherman bar , lots of alcoholics, a few dozen dykes, a pharmacy that had been there since the late 1800's with a counter that sold milkshakes, the usual lobster shacks, and the Pilgrim monument. The wealthy faggots moved in in the 90's and turned it into gay ghetto, the fisherman left, and there are whale watch fleets instead and some charter boats. It was always an artsy place. I was there several years ago and I have elderly relatives out on the Cape, and the beaches surrounding the outer cape are gorgeous still, and open and free. But it went through being a liberal honky tonk place to a millionaire gay mens money dump.
Thanks for sharing your experience from when you lived there. The whole P-Town experience can be overwhelming nowadays. Glad that my kids are all teenagers now. I wouldn't dare try it when they little.
Oh my gosh no, what walks down the main drag (no pun intended) is not for childrens eyes, its a damn shame, I am talking about nearly naked men in thongs with their junk wrapped in leather or satin. The best thing to do , for a whale watch or something, which is wonderful for kids and exciting and fun, is too launch from another harbor up cape. I used to love going to the Cape, but now when I want the "ocean fix", I go to Maine, Old Orchard Beach, or just visit with my older sister and avoid the town altogether. Old Orchard is fun, has that old feel of Beach town tourist trap, without the obscenity in your face, has some nice restaurants, and off season it is so inexpensive, I like to go after Labor day, the ocean is still warm and less crowded.
Thankfully we didn't see any thongs or pig in a blanket. That's absolutely disgusting. 🤮
Thanks for mentioning Old Orchard Beach. I haven't been there in 30 years and kind of forgot about it. That's a great alternative! Maybe we can stop there this weekend. My oldest wants to look at some colleges in Maine.
