The hurricane was actually about 200 miles to the south of Maui, and drawing the prevailing winds from the north across the island. Winds that day were gusting (not sustained) 60-70mph.
Original post: Hawaiʻi Fire Department crews battled three wildfires overnight in North and South Kohala and continue to fight them on Wednesday morning.
This is in Puako, Big Island, HI. Started on 8/9, the same time as the fires on Maui. Video of this fire here https://youtu.be/1jkcVMWsz9Y
It wasn't spontaneous combustion due to dryness and wind. It was a fire that appears to be started by downed power lines. The other islands didnt have the same fires tarting events. The one that burned had the spark, power lines, that started the fire. The other islands are just dry and windy but no spark set off a wildfire.
You would think during a hurricane, it wouldn’t be such a nice sunny day.
Those posts should withstand 90m+ winds since the islands are prone to hurricanes. Maui fires were provoked. Prove me otherwise.

Was 490 miles to the south according to Google https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2023/08/12/hurricane-dora-makes-history-without-making-landfall/
Why are other islands not catching fire in remote areas that have dried vegetation…
Other islands were catching fire at the same time as Maui. There just wasn't national news about it, and they were put out quickly.

Exactly. My point is they gonna double down on extreme weather as the cause.
I get what you're saying now.
