You know in hindsight think about our perceptions of Carter. He's a dumb peanut farmer, right? Just a hillbilly chewing on a hay straw, right? What if Carter refused to play along so [they] destroyed his reputation?

That is a distinct possibility. However, Trump faced much tougher opposition, and still managed to improve the economy and showed our enemies who was boss. Carter did neither.
