Where your comparison fails is that the infrastructure for fuel delivery is already there and somewhat stable and dependable - the same cannot be said for electric. Sure, it can be shut off - and it could easily be turned back on too.

Oh yes the electric grid sucks nuts. But I think it would be fairly easy for the now gay pride Ford to disable your engine at the government’s request as a Tesla would be. Except that Elon is more based than Ford Motor Company, so you might be safer in some ways with a Tesla, I don’t know.
