Let’s fix our election systems first. Once we’ve had a few cycles of truly free and fair elections, not DS rigged selections, we can revisit Congressional term limits. My belief is people will no longer see them as necessary when their votes actually do count.
Exactly, fix elections and term limits won’t be necessary
...doggy winks...
I’ve said this many times. We don’t need term limits per se, we only need ONE term, pick the length, 6-12 years. No more running for reelection. Eliminates the non stop campaigning and fund raising. Cut down on money in politics. Yeah, I know, would require an amendment to the constitution…
...compelling concept...
Very interesting idea!
What happens to McConnell, Feinstein and Fetterman in the fall session we wonders.
..."time, the avenger"...
This is not a bad thing, but also not necessarily a good thing. Term limits and maximum age limits would be some interesting arguments that would possibly require a Constitutional Congress to convene to change the Constitution. The problem with any of these hard rules is that there are always exceptions that create unfairness. I think the most important topic is eliminating pathways for corruption. This can only be done with transparency and by putting in place some serious punishments for their acts of corruption. It is for too often that these folks are policing themselves and slapping each other on the wrist when they get caught doing something that anyone else would be tried and sent to prison for. Our elected politicians have created this multi tiered justice system and this is the root of our problem, getting back to the spirit of the Constitution and restoring dignity to the Offices of Service.
..compelling addendum, nicely stated...
We believe that term limits can enable corruption, because the candidate knows when he will be leaving office and makes arrangements for his future wealth based on that. Of course, election rigging can do the same, in spades.
I think the key is that we have to put in the right people. My first recommendation is to disallow any lawyer from ever running for office. I have never seen a highly moral lawyer. Of course, there could be exceptions, but better not too chance it.
