The attitude shown here isn't only limited to those holding office.
Do you really think that the wife and son of the President of the United States can't sway the President on public matters? That they don't hold any influence?
I would think they hold just as much influence in shaping policy as others holding public office, if not more.
If a Democrat president's wife held dual citizenship with, say, Mexico or Israel, can you honestly say you wouldn't have an issue with that?
There is a requirement to hold office. Unless barred by the constitution or laws, all other familial ties and influences should be part of public discourse and the individual voters.
We can play the "What if" game all day but our President Trump was constitutionally elected. The 80+ congressmen and women with dual citizenships are illegal.
If you want to barr people from holding office because of familial ties, submit that bill into law, and just hope that it doesn't bar good Americans from office while criminals get away like always.
I like that you are critically thinking about President Trump's possible foreign influences but I can't help but believe that you are trying to sow doubt within our community. We can judge the worth of this man by all of his good deeds and that is many.
Where do you find that it's illegal for people with dual citizenship to hold public office in the US? As in Congress, or lower offices. Not the Presidency. I fully remember the issue with Ted Cruz running for president.
I'm not trying to sow doubt. I simply want people to a) be aware of facts and b) not be hypocrites.
Not wanting people to live in a fantasy LaLa Land and not be aware of very important facts, and not want them to look like idiots to the public (and thereby make ALL of Trump/Q supporters look like idiots) isn't an attempt to sow doubt.
Edited to add:
I feel the need to clarify my position here. I understand that people get upset when someone gets close to criticizing Trump here. But I, personally, do not feel the need to approve of every thought or deed committed by Trump in order to support him. Indeed, I think it's impossible to agree 100% with what anyone else does, and I don't feel the need to pretend to do so to prove my loyalty.
I, personally, could not give less of a shit if Barron and Melania hold dual citizenship. I do, however, despise hypocrisy. So when I see someone say that people who hold dual citizenship are "enemies to America", I feel the need to point out who, exactly, is included in that.
I also hope to prevent people from walking into "gotcha" like questions on camera, making the entire community look like mouth-breathing troglodytes.
So take that as you may towards determining my intentions.
But I'm sure this will end up on the "Someone said something I don't like, so delete them!" pile of demands our babysitters have to sift through.
I appreciate you contributions. I was indeed wrong about having only US citizenship to hold any public office. It seems to only matter when it comes to obtaining security clearances. Potential conflict of interests, as well.
Absolutes, stated by someone in an earlier comment, such as either you are an American or you are an enemy... well, is plain ludicrous.
I don't believe in censorship and I wouldn't support that your comments be deleted. You bring up valid points so I don't understand why you would even suggest that you may be deleted. It's up to the reader to use discernment and decide whether to engage or not.
However, I do see a future where AI can effortlessly crowd out and trivialize all the human voices in the public square.
Thank you for your kind response and I am beyond delighted that you took the time to double-check your info and that you had the integrity to admit you were mistaken. That is not something that I see often, and I really admire it.
I made the comments about my comments being deleted, because my comments often get deleted because some people get butt hurt over being presented with facts that contradict what they're saying. They're not grown up enough to double-check their info or be able to admit they're wrong. So they go crying to the mods and get my comments deleted. 🤷
