I don't use any big box or corporate outlets but I was told by someone last week that the nearest Walmart had stopped taking cash. They said there's a kiosk or counter near the entrance where you can trade cash for a store card to use at the register. Not sure if that true. Has anyone heard similar stories?
No. My wife actually works at a WalMart at the front desk. It is not a thing anywhere at least within 100 miles of me in my little spot in Texas.
Maybe that store is either trying some BETA program, or has gone rogue or something, but I can't see that ever working long-term.
