Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
A lot of people don't value that because they've been duped by Hollywood, et al to believe you MUST go to a city to be successful (and happy). You have an awesome situation, God keep your family whole and united!
Thanks for prayers of blessing same to you. Since I was a kid I traveled a lot with my grandparents and mom up and down 95 many trips to Orlando when Walt Disney World was cool, up north, mountains every fall & one trip to Montreal Toronto and Niagara Falls. Went to NYC & Philly when I was about 19. It's true, there's no place like. I loved the big city but would never want to live there. Really hoped I'd get back to NYC before I got too old to travel. I just can't see it unless there's a major change. Even Nashville & Memphis TN is to big. The way I grew up was truly like a movie. I lived beside my grandparents and great grandma until she passed when I was 16. My daughter was raised the same beside her grandparents and great grandparents. Went to a very small private school and graduated with seven in my class. I wanted to get away from here so bad I lied to myself and family, mainly myself thinking I wanted a career in fashion. I lasted from August to March in Richmond VA. It was the biggest culture shock of my life. First time seeing goth people and blue hair. I grew up with guys that had the rifle in the pic up to go hunting after school. Came back got a job tried community college and school just wasn't for me. Met the only person I ever wanted to be around more than two weeks and 35 years later still together. I'm not a good candidate for the brainwashing college professors🤣 Sorry that was so long and I know they say on here don't tell to much about yourself but I'm damned proud we have made a family instead of trying to build careers. Again blessings to you.
That's truly, no lie, heartwarming. A lot of young people stay in the grey cities, refusing to admit a mistake. You broke out and were free again, I'm really happy for you and yours. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks I'm happy living like this. I'm not crazy about the area it's gone downhill. My county is in the top five of the poorest populations in the state. There's a pocket in the north eastern part of the state that has a very high crime rate and welfare rate. My grandparents have been gone ten years. My parents are 76 & 80. If I could afford it I'd move to the coast. NC coastal communities are mostly awake so it's a great area. I saw a post the other day about an elementary school on a coastal island holding prayer before the school day. You won't see that where I live!
