Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Taking our mind off heavier political issues plaguing the world, I have directed my attention to the culture wars, which is getting badly neglected by this board.
Looks like, in the aftermath of the conclusion of the writers strikes and the economic storms facing Hollywood and LA in general, many of the animation jobs over there are getting outsourced overseas due to drastic increases in costs of hiring LA animators.

What makes me confused is, do we really need that much fluid (and expensive) animation to entertain children, which is the majority market for these animation works? I remember the older cartoons (probably produced in the 70's) from Sesame Street and School House Rock very well, examples below:

In fact, the multiplication tables sung in School House Rock does a far better job in teaching me multiplication than my school, and it stuck to me this day when I need to multiply stuff in my head.
Back to the main point, I can't see how these iconic pieces of animation are that expensive to create. Factoring the amount of digital tools that are available to us now, a lot of these projects can become one-man shows and still be a hit with the main audience of kids. What is driving the need for more "fluid" animation for an audience that might not appreciate it as much?
If we don't create parallel systems, we will be left with nothing.
I used to think we would be able to keep our schools, hospitals, community centers etc...
Nope. We will need to build this from the ground up again.
Find yourself a group and build. Make 1 rule.(Beyond our teachings) Speak your ideas into existence. They must have their time to develop a relationship with God. Service to self or service to others. Very clear. We will not survive unless we stand up for one another, shoulder to shoulder, as free men.
I agree with this, and in some small form we are doing this with our family.
We have a doctor that’s like a doctor club. She doesn’t take insurance, you pay $75 a month, and everything can be done via TeleMed. For the most part. Any blood work can be done at a Simon med, and the insurance that I do have a use for any hospital visits. It’s worked out beautifully. Three of our family members use the club, and I really like it. It’s worth every penny and $75 a month is cheap compared to some other doctor clubs.
Amen.
