Dude the antichrist was Nero.
If you were a jew living in that time it would be clear since "Nero Caesar" in Hebrew = 666 "let the reader understand"
He demanded worship. His face was on the money you used to buy and sell. He was killing Christians in mass. He would have them tied to stakes and burnt alive to light his dinner parties.
Nero reigned 54 – 68 AD within the same lifetime that Jesus was crucified.
Jerusalem was destroyed about 2 years afterwards by Roman armies. That was the abomination of desolations surrounding the holiest of holies (the temple) Rome had 10 hills with seven governors. Does that sound like a seven horned ten headed beast we finding the book of Revelation? Yes.
Rome first surrounded Jerusalem in 70 AD and started lay siege, then according to secular accounts, they left for some reason for a few days. While the rest of the city though it was over and they were safe the Christians that understood the passage about the abomination desolation and the instructions to flee to the mountains did just that. Rome then returned and finished their siege leaving those Christians as some of the only survivors.
Jesus said this generation shall not pass till all these things take place. It came on time as promised. He came on the clouds in judgment on those that crucified Him.
Fortunately much of the destruction language in the book of Revelation, which is over 50% quoted from Old testament passages, was about the persecution that was coming immediately after Jesus's death and the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple.
Some of the secular accounts of what happened during that siege match up with the imagery we saw in Revelation on the OT. Sun darkened. Sky like blood. Comet hanging in the sky above like a sword. Cannibalism once the Jews ran out of food. Streets running with blood.
The good news is that Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father making all of his enemies his footstool. That's God's favorite Bible verse. It appears more times in Scripture than any other.
To simplify it.... God wins.
Great post, thank you.
Thank you. Been tired of being the only one pointing this out. Hundreds of generations of Christians have always thought at the whisper of every war that Revelation was about to be fulfilled when it already was. They assume it must not be yet because Jesus didn’t come back the way they thought he would. Just like the Jews rejected Jesus because they had it in their minds he would be a military leader who would throw off the Romans for them. Not some hippie preaching love and forgiveness. Oh well. They want to keep trying to fit square pegs into round holes who am I to stop them I guess.
