β¦It is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship.
...voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.
~~ Hermann GΓΆring, testimonies at NΓΌrnberg Trials
When I see what happened the last couple years, it seems like our leaders learned a thing or two from the Nazis.
I always used to wonder how the German people could have been dragged so easily into a war when everything seemed to be going so well for them.
Then Prime Minister Tony Blair united with GHWB and took us into Iraq. Yes there were voices against and there were protests but we went to war with Iraq. Suddenly, the 1930s Germany situation became clear.
