House members cast a second round of ballots for Speaker on Wednesday, but House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) fared no better, in fact losing support from the first vote on Tuesday.
The final Speaker vote was 199 for Jordan, 212 for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and 22 for someone else.
But speaking after the vote, Jordan was undeterred in his work to reach 217 votes and flip holdouts. “We picked up some today, a couple dropped off, but they voted for me before. I think they can come back again. So we’ll keep talking to members. Keep working on it,” he said.
It is unclear if there will be another vote on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the push to expand the power of McHenry is heating up as the fractured GOP conference struggles to see a way forward.

Shut it down
This! The uni-party has to end. Either vote for America first or let the shutdown begin and we will just watch the corporation dissolve.
So many of us used to complain that the Dems were always in lockstep (not good for the people), and the Reps couldn't get their act together when it mattered most (also not good for us). Now we know they all work for the same masters, and it ain't us.
Burn it down would be more appropriate.
Burn it down with those traitors locked inside!
I said this yesterday and had someone cry to me that it would be better to have a RINO in charge than shut the government down. Mainly due to all the government workers and military who won't get paid. Even though they will all get back pay. When I told him I know, because my household won't get paid either, to include my son who is active duty. He didn't care. The truth of the matter is all the banks and the dollar are heading for a hard crash. When that happens no one is getting paid. Better to have someone in charge of the House now who will be able to lead us through that crisis. Rather than another RINO who will only care about his deep state buddies.
The love of money is the root of all evil. I work for the government and won’t get paid until it reopens if it shuts down. Assuming it will reopen. My wife is currently out of work as well. I say shut it down and fix what needs fixin. Get rid of fake opposition and bring in MAGA warriors. It’s time to end the perpetual circus and get back to the people’s work.
I've gotten into being a precinct delegate. I'm going to give a shout out to anyone with any inclination to get involved to consider getting into politics to start there. We'll have a difficult time getting all this cleaned up when we don't even have enough honest players on the bench to put in there once things play out, and it takes a couple years to get up to speed.
The government is funded for a year. Nothing is going to shut down.
I could be wrong, but I believe it was just a 45-day extension. That's going to come up on us very soon.
