Plot armor is amazing.

Sadly, many now see war that way. If you get shot it is only a minor inconvenience because you have to go back to the start and reacquire all your weapons. A nuclear attack is just a spectacular way to finish a level.

All thoughts of lying in a muddy ditch for a week without food and wondering where exactly your left foot might now be or of burning from the inside due to radiation is never a consideration.
