Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Didn't ask you to believe in evolution. Just to read bubble_bursts's final bullet point in the instructions and how it's been misspelled for a year. Shows how much we as a group care about the fine print. Good thing we're all frens and abide by the spirit.
But if you want to see a good takedown of the evolution theory, you should see decoding symbols's blog post about it, because it seems to have started out as a joke about an ugly princess.
Well, in the very last line, "Yesterdays" is supposed to be "Yesterday's", there since the very early days of GC. I had commented on it back then (different username) and it wasn't corrected so I figured it didn't make a difference anyway. Some anons, like me, like "the grammar police", other anons not so much. We care, but not enough to annoy people who probably have a whole hell of a lot more important things to do with their time.
Fifth bullet point-- "Try keep things" should be "Try to keep things"
Seventh bullet point-- "a argument" should be "an argument"
(Etcetera/Others). Yes, we do notice, but trivial inaccuracies that don't confuse or mislead are not terribly important in the grand scheme of things. We care about "the fine print", we notice it, but it's usually not worth detracting from what else is going on here. IMHO
Yup. But evoloving is still an entertaining typo.
You bastard, you sat on this info for a year?? 🤣
My grammarfag instincts have been deeply suppressed ever since the internet happened. But finally I snapped.
Hahaha. I am torn between fixing it and leaving it as it is for eternity.
Do not rely on your instincts. Use the force, Luke.
