Here's hoping the Simpsons was right about the Las Vegas sphere.

That Simpsons pic was relative to the Knoxvile Word's Fair...not anything in Vegas...
Was that before or after they saw Andy Williams in Branson, MO? 😂
It was after they saw Andy Williams. There is a funny scene near the end where Homer destroys his computer in order to get Bart and his friends home.
I came here to say just that, and I remember that particular episode. I live in east Tennessee and worked at the 1982 World's Fair and saw that Sun Sphere daily. It's still around, by the way, and is quite visible on the Knoxville skyline.

What is its use? In the episode, they used the Sunsphere to store wigs. Besides, I see it as a commentary on useless structures built for the World's Fair. Some examples are the Eiffel Tower, the Ferris wheel, and Shea Stadium.
Interesting how they would erect an entire city basically in no time. Then tear the whole thing down.
Not all world fair structures are "useless"... the Eiffel Tower is still in use and I've been to the top of it, it offers a glorious view of Paris in 360 degrees. The Knoxville is still in use, although it sat idle a few years after the fair. It's been used as a restaurant but I'm not sure what's going on there nowadays. It's recently been repainted to its original color blue. I don't get downtown very much these days, I tend to avoid crowds as a survival technique.
The Eiffel Tower was considered useless to the locals though this was right after the World's Fair.
I know... but today, try to imagine the skyline of Paris without the Eiffel Tower. It's so iconic that by merely showing 3 seconds of the Eiffel Tower and playing a little accordion music, a movie can tell you that the scene is set in Paris.
Just try removing the tower today... Paris would be in an uproar.
I agree. It might be useless, but the Eiffel Tower is part of the Paris skyline. In fact, the tower will be in the background for Olympic Beach Volleyball.
Everything in Vegas is built to be torn down and replaced with the next one
$169 per person just to watch a 50 min film and visit the atrium!
Why do we hate the sphere? Everything in Las Vegas is sinful. What's special about the sphere?
Corruption is the only permanent fixture in vegas.
