Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.

In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
I believe that adoption agencies need to be supported and available and ready to do outreach which is visible, friendly, and accessible. There must be a percentage of women who would consider carrying their baby to term if they knew how to go about the procedure. Conservatives do not like the idea of helping the poor with services, but you cannot be anti abortion and anti support for a poor women. If we could show the culture we are really committed to life, we could influence the mind set. Have adoption alternatives for women front and center, get them educated to the fact that if they give birth, they will get help through their pregnancy, they will not lose their job. The left uses the argument that pro life people only care about the fetus, but not the child who is born after. In some cases they have a point. And for the love of God, stop being anti birth control. To me, that does not make any sense. Of course abstinence from sex is the religious stance, but that will not work, period. I have no faith that even spreading the Gospel will reach all of those young people enough to change their behavior. There is a wonderful agency in Virginia that I send a check to every month, Saint Margaret of Cortona for Women. They provide services, respite, and a temprorary shelter and home for pregnant women. They do good work. The babies adoptions are set up. Now let me bring up something that I have been harping on forever. If you are a parent of a son, and he is under age, and he gets a girl pregnant, you are just as responsible for the support of that child, and for helping that girl, you do not get off the hook. If the baby is born, the parents of the father, if he is under 18, are responsible, and that should be law. I think the GOP went a little nuts with preaching that birth control should be illegal, that just is crazy, in my opinion. People are going to do the thing, the best way to stop abortion is to not get pregnant in the first place, duh.
Conservatives do not like helping the poor with services???
You are confusing local town and church charity with government programs. Guess which American conservatives support and fund more than any other group in the world?
The many small church groups where I live only help those who are in the church, not the general public. They even have their own foodbanks, for the congregants. Our food bank, womans shelter from abuse are supported from local towns who put it in their annual budget and vote on at town meetings. Private adoption agencies are extremely wealthy and cater to wealthy people, who want a "certain" type of child. The foster system cannot keep up once these kids are older, there are lots of creeps applying to do foster care, and many who do it for the stipend check. If not the "government" then who regulates the care and adoption or funds the programs that can help a girl to carry out the pregnancy and have the baby's adoption set up before the birth? I get what you are saying about government, but government can be a good thing if the right people are working in it.
