John Hopkins, along with many other renowned hospitals, have dug themselves into graves from which I hope they NEVER climb out. We saw it also during Covid, when families and/or patient advocates were denied entry to the bedside of loved ones during their hospital stay and sometimes during their final hours on earth. We heard of patient and family wishes being ignored regarding use of remdesevir and ventilators. Bill O’Reilly also highlighted a case of child kidnapping by Boston Children’s’ Hospital. I pray that John Hopkins pays up and does not appeal after all they have put this family through. If they do appeal, I pray the compensation is doubled, not that it will bring back the mother/spouse or right all the wrongs done to this family. The arrogance of big institutions is beyond belief and until they are crippled financially or lose their license to practice, nothing will change.
There is a Netflix special called, “Take Care of Maya” it details the whole journey this family went through. The mom was an amazing woman who knew she was right and refused the treatment plan. This case is a perfect example of egos of big institutions affecting their ability to listen to alternative treatments.
The other issue is when parents are investigated and they are found to be innocent. Sometimes these parents have lost jobs, houses, and their reputations; there needs to be responsibility on the hospitals for damages they have caused.
Ok so this young girl had a rare disease. She was getting very high doses of ketamine that were working well for her. One night she was in pain and the dad took her to the hospital. The hospital said the mom and daughter were faking and took her off her therapy and kept her away from her family for 3 months. The hospital with the courts got the whole case wrong. Mother committed suicide.
Oh my gosh! Yikes! Now I wish I hadn't asked. Thank you for explaining. No wonder she was so emotional. Her mom committed suicide. What a horror story. Who the H-E- double hockey-sticks do these people think they are? My gosh. What an incredible story. In retrospect, the parents should have taken her out of the hospital "against medical advice." Which is their right!! I can see why the so called authorities felt they had to step in - if they thought she was being neglected or abused, but this makes my blood boil. Thanks for the explanation, fren.
Evil. Well, I'm glad they won in court. I didn't see much of the video posted because I didn't know the back story. I did see the emotional response she and her brother had to the verdict. I'm not even sure what they won. Presumably some money and the affirmation they had the right to make their own decisions. Evil hospital, evil people. I'm so happy they were vindicated but sorry about their mom and everything else they had to endure. Strong people. Thanks again, fren.

You don't address individual accountability. People consciously decided this outcome and they need to pay.
Very true, but most likely the hospital will cover for them, rather than them being charged with false imprisonment, assault, etc.
I think this is where "Wise as serpents" is applicable. Get your loved one out of the facility as "innocently" as possible.
Going to visit a park, Bday party, whatever.
Then disappear.
Amazing indeed

Would someone please sum up what the story is behind this case? Thank you.

My pleasure, they could not take her out against medical advise because they took custody away from the parents. They would not let the mom near her.
Watch the special on Netflix.
