I was talking with a neighbor this morning, who works for a local city(small sized), and he was telling me that the EPA is going to require testing on all city water lines of the town we live in to make certain the lead levels are at or below the required levels mandated by Congress. Well, our local water supply is constituted of two inch metal pipe installed in the 50's, 60's. and 70's. They ran all main water lines in front of the houses and then at the meter pit it branches off into the houses. Now, it is incumbant upon the water district to do the testing on their water lines to make certain the led levels are at the recommended levels. The EPA instructed the water district to do the tests and then submit the results to them before next October.
Now here comes the rub, the EPA is instructing the water district to figure out how much lead is in the pipes within each house. Since this is an older neighborhood, all of the water supply lines within the walls of the house are copper with lead solder. So how will the water district test each house? We don't know but it was mandated so all we can figure is that the water district will come into our houses and take(forcefully if necessary) water samples from EACH tap.
My house is of new construction and I made darn certain I used PEX throughout, plus I had to pay the water district a huge amount of money to reroute their main line from running inside of my foundation. Ugh.
I do not know how this will pan out because 99% or the local population has not heard of this EPA request, yet. But I imagine when the word spreads there will be a collective howl of "Stay out of my house". We shall see, but I do not think this will end well.
Just wanted to relay this story so maybe it will give you pedes a heads up on what might be coming down the pike to your areas. Big Brother is trying to gain access to your house for what nefarious reason? Spy on you or maybe just to get the lay out of your house? Be cautious out there.
Tell them to get a warrant if they want inside your house or even on your property.
Better yet, here is the exact way to handle it, short and sweet (warning: f-bombs dropped):
