Wife not old enough for Medicare.
First: Insurance is suffering from "shrinkage" just as much as potato chips. Not near as much in the bag.
Second: The way I see it, I can purchase an almost decent policy for my wife (worse coverage than in the past) OR.... I could make payments on a brand new, high-end Bentley (including insurance) for the same money.
I don't need a Bentley. Yet?
Being healthy, no insurance, is the best answer. Yet?
This is ridiculous. So much for retirement. Social Security doesn't even cover the cost of healthcare. Gees.
We don't have health care. It is way too expensive. We take vitamins, eat healthy, exercise and when something comes up, we pay cash. Same for our teeth! I am hoping for something in the future that makes sense. Also, I really don't trust doctors and even the vet for my dogs.
I haven’t had insurance since Obamacare, premiums tripled for me with bigger deductible. I don’t want what they’re peddling anyway, their model only works when they make you sicker than you are already. We quit eating ‘their’ food quite some time ago, and savvy on alternatives. Be judgement proof if you’re going to go for a catestrophic, my advice… don’t let it get that far.
Look into a Health Share Plan (HSA), it's a ministry-based group where members share each other's medical bills.
You are better off being an illegal immigrant
We haven't had insurance since Obamacare passed. We've saved enough to buy two of the Bentleys outright. I'm not saying it's a good idea for everyone, I simply took a stand against Obamacare, and the Lord took care of us.
SS is definitely not safe to rely on. If you get back anything you pay in, you’re lucky. Everyone should save for their elderly years as if they won’t get SS… if at all possible.
Personally we opt for the lowest insurance plan to be there in case of a massive catastrophe, and save and handle as much of our own medical needs as possible.
The more government money is thrown at "health care", the higher the costs go -- much like government student loan "help" raises the cost of tuition. More money being thrown at the same amount of goods raises the price of the goods.

Note that many of the "not new" drugs are off-patent, some are actually from the 1950s, and likely cost pennies per dose to produce.
I have it and avoid using it like the plague. Only emergency or a surgery. I try to keep myself healthy. I know more about my own health than they ever will.
