It’s going to be a long way back to that sadly.
actually been wondering about the possibility of coming at least close to the cars of yesteryear if we ever get to this new beginning I hear about on here. i keep watching these mechanical videos of newer cars and they're just out of reach. every car is over engineered, nobody at home can so much as to replace the battery without a ton of bs, enormous repair bills, increasingly complex that the mechanic population is lowering, and just plain unattractive. they're a complete disconnect from reality and simplicity. I own a 6 ton from 1965, a car from 1972, and a car from 2009 and we are lost. we have lost our way. it's not funny anymore. if you notice, pickup truck beds have shrunk. probably because they've crammed so much pointless bullshit in the dash and consoles, they have to increase cabin space and therefore reduce the bed just to be able to not span 2 whole parking spaces. JUNK THEY'RE ALL JUNK
Don't get me started on pick-up beds. They have shrunk, I agree, but they are also now almost always chest-high, and with the pickup bed sides, you can't even place a rake or a shovel inside, and reach over and get it out again, unless you are seven feet tall.
Ford has a little man-step built into it's tailgate, like an elderly ladder, to help reach in. GMC has a 6-function tailgate, to help assist you into climbing up into your bed to retrieve your long-lost rake.
Meanwhile, I look on at smart owners who purchased lovely sensible right-sized Ford Ranger pickup trucks from the mid-90's who have wisely kept them up in great condition, and remember what could have been...
and then they lift them l o l i want a pickup to look like i need a pickup, but i only want to use it for a trendy fashion statement l o l
Odd photo. Trim looks like a CDV but has the chrome bullet trim on the tailfin of a Fleetwood 60 Special. I guess after 64 years a lot of parts get mixed and matched.
Lots of pics of the full model catalog here: http://classiccarcatalogue.com/CADILLAC_1959.html (although, FYI GM artists purposely elongated their drawings to make cars look sleeker back then)
It’s 100% original.
It's a bit before my time. Unfortunately, while I had a lot of relatives who would know, they're all dead.
I do know that back then, especially at Cadillac, you could do a lot of custom ordering and I wouldn't put it past being a factory option or even a dealer add-on of factory parts. I've personally never seen the chrome spears on a CDV or 62 but it doesn't mean they weren't built that way. Have seen them on Eldos but they have totally different side trim.
Was definitely a cool time to be a car buyer.
Is this your caddy you lucky dawg?!
No. I wish
that would be a fun car with a twin-turbu LSX .... with an suspension and BRAKE upgrade!
What a Classic beauty! ❤️ Wish cars were like designed like they were in the 40's & 50's....sweet!
When I was doing product liability work, this was labeled as an "aggressive rear end"...as in the configuration of those tail light fins could potentially cause more extreme injury when in direct contact with the human form in an accident.
As cool as it looks, I get why they don't make them just like that any more.
However...I would LOVE to see car makers go a little retro. Cars definitely used to look a lot cooler.
