The alien invasion is already happening right there at the border.
I think the DS has kept this and tweaked and perfected this trick for just a little too long.
It seems like when they hint around about it and make allusions to “verified” alien claims, the public literally does not care.
Now, we’d be so ridiculously skeptical of any “invasion,” we’d have the whole thing debunked in a week and the DS would have nothing left in the tank.

An off planet threat could have been a great idea, at some point... But the convenience of it, at this time would make it too obvious. Many would still fall for it (it would be an awesome show) but the great awakening would stiil prevail.
