I spoke with a Mescalero Apache sub-Chief a few years ago.
I asked him if Native Americans objected to professional sports teams having names like Braves, Indians, Chiefs, or Redskins. I also asked if Native Americans objected to team logos and mascots looking like cartoon images of Native Americans.
He said bluntly "We don't care about that sh!t". "That's something other people worry about. We couldn't care less."
Apparently, they are more concerned about tribal education, protecting their own borders, tribal resources and handling reservation issues. I got the impression that they aren't concerned at all about sports team names.
Another point I will make is that the Apache tribe protects THEIR tribal borders.
If you don't believe me... just wander onto their reservation and be escorted back OFF the reservation with a warning. Then wander back onto the reservation and get caught a 2nd time, having ignored the warning. You'll see that some people take borders seriously... just before you become a lump in the desert.
I have a full blooded Ojibwa that has worked for me for 25 years. He laughs at this stupid team logo shit.
Should we change the name of the Cowboys? How about The Fighting Irish. My entire family is Irish descent. I am offended sir!! It is an old trope of an Irishman who speaks with his fists first. Probably drunk too. Fucking Irish! I hear Bulldogs and Wolverines are offended too.
Their are multiple pictures of the then Washington Redskins honoring the Navajo Code talkers on several occasions, with the Code Talkers wearing Redskins gear.

The argument is absurd on its face.
Obviously only people with a darker shade than white can be offended by something.

the entire offensive mascot thing is bullshit. do greeks get offended if you call your team the Spartans but are not from Greece?
