Elon caveats that "there is only 7MB per beam and it's a big beam"

So not intended as a competitor to regular cellular service providers. But if you need to make a call in the middle of fuknshit nowhere you will have a chance of being connected.

Anyone with even the smallest of understanding should definitely know satellite with our current infrastructure is not a possible replacement to close range towers connected via fiber or copper, which are both faster (magnitudes for the former) and more easily repaired.

As you said, if you are lost or need to text/make a call for some reason, that's where something like this becomes a benefit.

Maybe it is still being perfected and will be a great way for people to use their cell phones and get rid of the providers that charge a fortune and have towers everywhere across the US, and when their towers aren't servicing some areas cell service is miserable. Elon could very well be the next Tesla-nearly free cell service??
