Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
btw, I have recently discovered that scriptures contain tons of information about plants and their medicinal use and what kind of food is good for what kind of issues. I am specifically talking about Ayurveda, but I hear that other civilizations have similar kinds of compilations.
With Ayurveda, it is written that the guy who wrote it got the info from the Gods. Perhaps early humans did get a list of food to eat and not eat, and Brian didnt really die from mushrooms, who knows!
I’ve dabbled with Ayurveda medicine for several years. I order from Banyan Botanicals occasionally. I just made an extremely too long post on my carnivore experiences. I failed to mention that’s one reason I’m changing my mind. I hadn’t researched as well as I thought. They recommend beef, eggs, butter, bacon and basically anything from an animal. No plants, herbs or anything not even spices. Because plants can be toxic. My first thought was what do you think these animals are eating? Second I’m not giving up herbal tea and medicine. Plus this girl will have tomatoes, watermelon and strawberries in season. I highly doubt there’s any place on earth that’s doesn’t have toxins in the soil or air. Humans have destroyed our planet and no amount of environmentalists or climate change can ever reverse that. God is the only way and the Bible says he will destroy Earth and build it new, “build back better”🤣
It makes sense the early people knew what to eat. After all God told them not to eat the apple (or from the tree) we assume it was an apple.
Poor Brian and the mushroom. Hope he had a damn good trip before he went.
This is a common misconception within the Carnivore community.
I have many friends who are into Carnivore diet and who keep sending me videos about this, but when I watch them, they all talk about Oxylates and how they can be toxic if you eat TONS of stuff like Potatoes every day.
For instance one of the videos specifically mentioned that even eating potatoes daily is not going to be toxic. But if you eat multiple services of potatoes, green leafy veggies etc, every day, thats bad.
I agree, my own research into this is extremely limited, but I am not able to find one video (even amongst those sent to me by carnivore practitioners) that actually makes the scientific case that plants are toxic without caveats.
if you have a well researched video that does this, I am interested in watching.
I didn’t know what Oxylates were. I don’t remember why I researched that. Maybe something I read. Found out black pepper was just one of the many. Seems like Oxylates cause inflammation. That confused me because most turmeric supplements have black pepper to help it work. I hope I remember this correctly. I’ve invested too much learning about something that (now) seems like something promoted to make money on videos. So far I don’t have well researched videos. Doubtful I’ll research further.
