Agreed. A stalemate is when one side is prevented from moving but you did not capture the king.
If you look like winning you try to avoid a stalemate but if you look like losing you try and force one to save losing so badly.
I have never seen "best" used as a special chess term.
it is if you are analyzing moves after the fact. the computer rates them and "best" is what you want
OK, but I could be reading some microwave oven reviews and they might choose "the best". I don't think that makes it a microwave oven term. It is just English.
i think the term is standardized insofar as chess is concerned. whatever the computer would play is "best"
If a computer plays any game with moves you would expect it to pick the best one so is "best" a technical term in all games?
