Yea, this is not an accident. They want to rewrite history and the media will saturate this quote everywhere, confusing the original. Eventually, “fact checkers” will confirm Ben said Democracy and not Republic.
A republic is a form of democracy.
Really, I keep seeing "we're not a democracy, we're a republic!"
It's like saying Pepsi isn't a soda because it's a Pepsi.
Republic and Democracy are different words because they have different meanings. Sure, a Republic is a form of government, like a Democracy, but to say it's a sub-set or basically the same is intellectually dishonest.
There are DISTINCT differences between what is lauded as a Democracy in the United States and what was intended by the Constitution as a Republic. Popular voting of candidates was not what the founders intended, but it's what today's champions of Democracy desire and defend.
We need to go back to being a Republic with true representation of the citizenry through small, local (yes, democratic) elections.
Sorry, you're simply wrong on this. A Republic is a type of democracy. The US is a representative democracy. It's not a matter of opinion. It's a fact. The US government itself says we're a democracy.
I don't know why it has caught on in the last decade that the US isn't a democracy, but it's simply wrong. I don't know if it was a result of HRC saying she won the popular vote or people saying that Trump will "destroy our democracy". Either way, I'm sure Regean is rolling in his grave to hear conservatives/republicans say we're not a democracy.
I think the issue comes down to people thinking the only type of democracy is an absolute democracy, or "mob rule". Where everyone votes directly on every issue.
But that's not what we have. We have a representative democracy, which means we vote for representatives to work on our behalf to run the country.
Am I wrong or are you merely well indoctrinated by the public schools?
I’m not wrong. A Republic is what they made. Democracy was specifically rejected because the founders knew it always leads to tyranny once the masses learn they can vote themselves bread and circuses.
Read more history. The Federalist Papers might be a good place for you to start, if you are honestly curious.
They are not botching it. They are attempting to rewrite history. But too bad they get called out.
Twitter kicked her ass on this yesterday.
A liberal/communist 'democracy' is very clear. It simply means DC. NY City and Cal. Owning and Ruling over the USA (Republic). Someone ask this twit why there is an Electoral College?
A Republic is a form of democracy. Saying the US isn't a democracy because it's a republic is like saying a Pepsi isn't a soda because it's a Pepsi.
