Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evoloving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Please pray for the south and entire eastern seaboard. We have very bad storms coming and power outages are all over the south east. Schools in my area are either closed or getting out early. We can survive in a power outage but it’s very cold and not everyone has generators. Link below is only North Carolina.

Yeah here in upstate South Carolina we have had torrential rain and wind. The thunder woke me up around 3 am . Been storming off and on all day. It is chilly for the south so hopefully no power outages. Stay safe Frens! God bless!
The rough weather is just getting to me. Our lights bliked a lot several hours ago. I heard I95 is shut down somewhere in NC.
Cold front coming to Wyoming with wind chill -35. Only for a couple days then it will likely head east !
Dang I’ve never been to that area of US and would love to be only in the warmer months. I’m a whimp with cold weather. I’m freezing at 45 degrees. I guess it’s what you get used.
Ugh that’s not good. When I left my house today, the further up my road I went, the worse it got. The fields are completely flooded. I feel bad for all the farmers around me. Stay home and stay safe my Fren. ❤️
The hard rain and winds are just getting to me. I’m enjoying the wind chimes and praying a tree limb doesn’t come through the window behind my chair. I95 was shutdown few hours ago due to power lines down. Earlier mid day I took my dachshund (they think they are above dog term) out. We have a cover over the patio so I was being nice trying to get him to go on the concrete. Wouldn’t budge so I stuck him in the rain and wind while I was dry. He can’t piss on concrete but you piss him off he can go on your carpet in a hot minute. You gotta love something to put up with that! I feel bad for pets in this weather. At least farm animals have a barn.
This storm is getting scary. I hear a freight train or mothership sound roaring above. I have never heard this before. The wind is erratic...hope everyone stays safe. 94 mph gust reported
That's the sound of a tornado!! Let us know you're okay.
yes It was the sound of a tornado but it was...different.
It went on and off multiple times. Low roar. Then right before the storm was supposed to hit our city, we heard a plane flying right by. We also heard jets above the storm. very distinct sounds all of these. Anyways the winds werent as bad as predicted, everything good on the inside of the house and the kids are safe! Thank you for thinking of me.
I'm glad to hear that all is well. Thanks for letting us know. That was scary when I read what you wrote!
Oh that is bad! Stay safe. That reminds me I need to make space in my closet & pantry. After that tornado about 6 months ago was about three miles from me I tend to take it more seriously. I just saw a video of the ocean at Atlantic Beach NC wow she’s beautiful but kinda scary.
Practically every storm for the last 9 months that hits New England has originated in Texas and come up the Appalachian Mtns... more people should start noticing this. The storms are always fountain shaped too with a big softer rain mushroom area at the northern part and an intense stem as a tail. Always moving Northeast out of East Texas.
That’s where our storms have always generated except for nor’easter’s coming up the Atlantic coast. Years ago I was fly from Texas back to North Carolina and waited several hours before we could leave. They have serious storms in Texas and tornado alley. Thankfully they usually break up over the Appalachians. Looks like this one is heading north. Stay safe.
I've been watching for decades casually because of work. I'm in Western Pa. What I expect and have observed for years is winter weather coming out of the Midwest or Michigan. "Lake effect snow" used to be a thing that doesn't happen anymore. Just my observation. I'm not saying systems never came out of the south it was just the exception and not the norm. Stay safe too fren!
